After Snowden exposed the true extent of NSA spying both on its own people and those abroad, I was hopeful that people would be so outraged that they would stand up and take back their rights to privacy. While there was indeed a large majority of people who voiced their anger and displeasure at such an abuse of civil rights, they were sadly not organised enough, and also distracted from consolidating themselves in the public arena by media circus shows like the Zimmerman / Martin case.
This gave the establishment enough time to hunker down and set up their defences against any public outcry.
Many people were hoping this outcry was being taken up when Rep. Justin Amash chaired an amendment to a bill that would disallow the NSA from gathering all this data on everyone unless they were under investigation. It showed promise and had a wide bi-partisan support. Alas the Whitehouse fought back and urged the American congress not to support this amendment and therefore to allow the continued collection of enormous quantities of so-called “metadata”
It was a close run thing with the end result being a victory for the police state and a defeat for freedom by 205 – 217.
Understandably many Americans are upset over this, and on the off-chance that some of these people may want to harrass contact these legislators that sold away their privacy. Some kind soul has provided a list of all the members who voted against this amendment with their relevant contact details.
Of course the people should never of put their faith in the politicians to give them their privacy in the first place, but should have just stood up and taken it back for themselves. That is ultimately going to be the only way that people can free themselves, and propping up any form of hierarchy and calling it freedom is inevitably going to be self-defeating. However we sometimes have to take these things bit by bit so should always support any attempt at changing the status quo however misguided the philosophy is behind it.
Any way here is the list of those congress men and women who betrayed the American public over this. Do with it as you will……
Damn thing is huge so I am only providing the link
