The Big Flaw in Capitalism- and why they won’t tell you.

SMILING CARCASS'S TWO-PENNETH

After 200 years plus of capitalism, I am surprised the ordinary worker doesn’t see it; I am surprised that capitalism lasted more than 50 years. See what; why this broad statement? Easy; capitalism doesn’t work. Here’s the reason.

As we all know, no matter how hard politicians try to reign in capitalism, however hard they try to control it or, on the other side how hard they try to allow it to do as it pleases, capitalism inevitably results in boom and bust.

Whatever the capitalists tell you, the people who suffer most during the ‘bust’ periods are the poor, the employee and the disenfranchised. The people who suffer least are the speculators, factory owners and entrepreneurs who have amassed great wealth by underpaying the proletariat for their labour and overcharging that same proletariat for goods and services.

Conversely, during the ‘boom’ years the…

Politics and Insights

I’m an ordinary person who happens to be ill, and like many others, I also happen to have a few strong principles, a strong sense of fairness, justice and I am clear on what’s decent, right and wrong. I don’t want to be a leader of any kind, nor do I see myself as an “expert” on disability issues. I don’t believe we should be looking to individuals for answers, to speak for us, or to take responsibility for us. One size does not fit all: our individual challenges vary greatly, and so, therefore, will our individual solutions. So we need a broad variety of spokespersons to reflect a wide spectrum of needs within our community, and we ought to welcome such a pluralist approach and recognise our diversity as a great strength. Furthermore, much campaigning is about issues around social exclusion, we can only approach this effectively by making…

London Homelessness Soars In First Three Months of Benefit Cap

The very tip of the Iceberg

the void

homeless1The number of families accepted as homeless by London local authorities has rocketed by 26% compared to the same period a year earlier.

4,230 households – almost all with children – were owed a main homelessness duty between April and June of this year.  These are families who councils have accepted they have a legal duty to help and only represent the tip of the iceberg.  Thousands more single people, families judged intentionally homeless, or those refused help for not meeting strict criteria, are also facing life without a home in the capital.

This huge rise came after the Government introduced a Benefit Cap for families at £500 a week in some parts of London from April this year.  Whilst this is unlikely to affect many households in Scotland, Northern England or Wales,  it has made much of the capital, and surrounding areas, unaffordable to families on benefits due to…

The polls that mark the end of 3 decades of Thatcherism and New Labour

Pride's Purge

(not satire)

I’m old enough to remember British Rail when it was a nationalised service.

It wasn’t perfect by any means but I remember the one thing passengers complained about the most.

The sandwiches.

Not the price of tickets, the safety record, the overcrowding or the waste of taxpayers’ money.

It was the poor quality of the sandwiches.

Admittedly the sandwiches sold on BR trains were pretty awful it’s true, but then ready-made sandwiches were pretty woeful in the 1970s wherever you bought them.

So why are politicians so surprised by the fact that time and time again polls show the public want railways to be renationalised – by as many as 75% in some cases.

But it’s not just the railways the public would prefer to be state-run.

In a recent poll, a massive 69% of people said energy firms should be renationalised (this part of the…

Kill The Poor

“Welcome ladies and gentlemen, to the official DWP 1st annual “piss on the poor” party and karaoke night. Tonight our first song is dedicated to a very special person, Mr Ian Duncan Smith.

Please stand up Mr Smith.

Can we shine a spotlight on him …….. no no it’s not that man, the one behind him with the bald head that looks like a SS concentration camp guard, yes that’s the one.  A round of applause for the man who is single-handedly responsible for the funding of tonight’s party.  All paid for from savings made due to the massive increase in sanctions handed out to the peasants by this man. Thank you Mr Smith. Sieg Hail Sieg Hail!!

And so on with the festivities.  In honour of your achievements we would like to dedicate this song to you Ian, I know it is one of his favourites…..”

Religious Nutjob Of The Week : Presuppositional Apologetics

Presuppositional Apologetics

Get this, a fundamentalist christian viewpoint that states there should be no objective or neutral starting place for any theory or idea. According to these people, all forms of evidence gathering that is not based on the “truth” of the bible is inherently false.  So that includes logic, the scientific method, reason or personal experience, all of it worthless in the eyes of the christian apologetic.

This takes willful ignorance to a whole new level of stupid. The complete stubborn refusal to even consider any other viewpoint, fact or opinion if it comes from someone who does not share your religious insanity.  Must make for interesting discussions, or lack there-of.

I mean can you imagine one of these guys arguing over simple mathematics…..

Normal guy :  “If we know the two shorter lengths in a right-angled triangle, we can use Pythagoras’ Theorem to find the hypotenuse.”

Crazed zealot :  ” No no that is incorrect. Pythagoras was not a christian therefore his findings must be false”

Normal guy : ” huh you what?  Just try it yourself dude, take the square of the two ….”

Crazed zealot : ” NAAAHHNAHHHH NOT LISTENING!! ….BLASPHEMY , FALSE IDOL ….. DEVILS”

Normal guy : ” oooo kay, tell you what, here is some pretty coloured crayons. Why don’t you go sit in the corner and draw holy sheep or burning bushes or whatever nonsense it is you actually believe and let the rest of us get on with life”

Crazed zealot : Yay! Jesus!!!!

Think this is just some obscure philosophical viewpoint that no-one but a few fusty professors have ever even heard of?  Think again. Sadly this idea is being pushed as a genuine argument by present day fundies. Fed up with losing arguments based on “crazy” things like evidence and reason, they are now just refusing to even enter into a debate by using this excuse.  Personally if it gets rid of these crazies from clogging up almost every intelligent discussion online, with their inane make-believe and constant fuckin scripture quotes, then I’m all for it 🙂

Disabled Protesters Blockade The BBC

the void

Disabled protesters from DPAC, Black Triangle, Mental  Health Resistance Network and others blockaded a BBC building today in protest at the corporation’s shameful parroting of DWP lies.

Ever since this Government weren’t elected ministers like Iain Duncan Smith and Lord Fraud have misused statistics and even lied outright to smear disabled benefit claimants as scroungers or frauds.  These lies have been repeated without criticism by the toadying BBC who have become little more than a spineless mouthpiece for DWP spin.

This has all taken place against a savage backdrop of cuts to benefits, housing and local services which are forcing thousands of disabled people into brutal poverty, homelessness and tragically even suicide.  This side of the story has rarely been shown on the BBC.

Today disabled people fought back, blockading the entrance to their building in Portland Place.  Watch the video above.
